Consultative meeting on the Draft/Manual for the participation of public in decision-making process of the Assembly

Tirana, 12 December 2014

On December 12, 2014, the Agency for Support of Civil Society (ASCS), represented by its Executive Director, Mr. Andi Kananaj, participated in the consultative meeting on the Draft/Manual for participation of the public in the decision making process of the Assembly, initiated and organized by the Albanian Parliament, in cooperation with the OSCE office in Tirana.

Based on the principle of broad public participation in decision-making as an essential element of any transparent political system, accountable and democratic, as well as creating a better enabling environment for better functioning of Civil Society as active and inclusive, aiming to encourage the Civil Society in the legislative process and monitoring, the Albanian Assembly invited all actors and representatives of Civil Society to express their thoughts and opinions on this Draft/Manual.

Participants in this meeting, which were mainly MPs from the Parliamentary Committees, representatives of Civil Society and groups of interests, representatives of the OSCE office in Tirana, as well as representatives from the staff of Parliament, brought their thoughts and suggestions on possible improvements concerning the well-functioning and efficiency of this Draft/Manual, which would guide the work of the associations and of other representatives of Civil Society, as well.

At the end of the meeting, the organizers expressed their estimation for their contribution in developing this Draft/Manual, which will be finalized by its approval and publication.
